Position Summary:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct Supervision of 15-25 staff including transducer engineering, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, DSP, system engineers, program managers, and technicians.

Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will ultimately be responsible to design, develop, and deliver acoustic products and systems on-time, on-quality, and on-budget across a range of product categories (Luxury Audio, Embedded Audio, and Connected Home) within the Lifestyle Division.
- Design, develop, and deliver NPI (New Product Introduction) on-time, on-budget, and on-quality.
- Collaborate with category management across Lifestyle Division to define and execute product roadmaps.
- Execute internal design, development, and manufacturing products, as well as, OEM/ODM relationships with supply chain partners across the globe.
- Develop and execute an innovation plan to drive first-to-market products and technologies in all product lines. Encourage innovation within the development team. Drive novel designs and patent applications.
- Create platform and architecture strategies that encourage re-use, reduce cost, improve quality, and drive speed to market.
- Manage technical staff capacity across multiple projects while coaching, developing, and building organizational capability to ensure long-term success.
- Manage the extensive suite of HARMAN engineering facilities in Northridge including the engineering labs, anechoic chambers, and prototype shop.
- Manage the lifecycle of the product including the continuation engineering (quality/warranty) and EOL.
- Build relationships with peer engineering leaders across HARMAN’s organization (Professional, Infotainment, Car Audio, Headphones, Research, etc) and foster collaboration, innovation, and platform sharing.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS Engineering or Technical field required. MS preferred.
- 10+ years experience, preferably in the Audio industry or a Consumer Electronics business.
- Strong product development skills, including managing OEM/ODM development programs, engineering capacity management, and driving innovation.
- Passion for music and audio.
- Ability to work effectively within a matrix environment

Basic Responsibility:

Perform electrical and acoustical measurements, assemble and test prototype loudspeaker systems and components. Simulate & design passive crossover networks, active loudspeaker tunings via analog or digital filters, acoustic waveguides and speaker systems. Design and conduct acoustical and electrical prototypes, analyze & report results. Support JBL engineering team in the development of new products and sustaining engineering.

Essential Functions:
- Design and develop passive and active/networked/powered loudspeakers for Tour Sound and Install markets to meet specified requirements for performance and cost.
- Work closely with the market segment managers to define product requirements and specifications.
- Work with other JBL Pro Engineering teams (Loudspeaker Systems, Transducers and Mechanical Engineering) and JBL Marketing managers to design and develop passive and active speaker products.
- Develop test specifications and design verification plans for functional and reliability testing of end products.
- Perform tests on speaker components and complete systems to include power handling, impedance, transfer function, frequency response and polar response, etc.
- Measure and analyze loudspeaker performance using HATS, LEAP, MLSSA, LMS, Listen SoundCheck, Audio Precision and other test systems as required.
- Create virtual models of loudspeakers, loudspeaker systems or loudspeaker components using LEAP, LMS, MATLAB, Filtershop, Solidworks and COMSOL and other pertinent simulation software. Analyze the results and incorporate them into new designs and design improvements.
- Develop loudspeaker system tunings with analog and digital filters, including design, simulation, electrical test and acoustic test.
- Design loudspeaker cabinets including dimensions, materials, and appropriate construction techniques.
- Assemble prototype loudspeakers and passive crossover networks.
- Evaluate loudspeaker system and speaker component performance and reliability, failures and discrepancies. Develop test plans and implement corrective actions.
- Create bills of materials for new loudspeaker systems.
- Create development schedules for assigned projects, track project status against the schedule and communicate to engineering management.

Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical or acoustical engineering or associated technical field.
- Experience: Six years experience designing and testing professional loudspeaker systems.

Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Acoustics
- Experience in the development and tuning of powered loudspeakers and systems
- Experience in DSP algorithms and programming
- Experience in low latency wireless technologies
- Experience in networking
- Knowledge of UL, CE, FCC and other regulatory requirements
- Understanding and familiarity in development of embedded and/or application software
