Senior Manager, Engineering, Acoustics JobLocation: Consu.Northridg, US Req ID: 36062 Position Summary:
HARMAN’s Lifestyle Division is the world leader in hi-fidelity audio and entertainment solutions. Supporting our world class brand portfolio (JBL, Harman/Kardon, Infinity, AKG, Mark Levinson, Revel, Lexicon, & JBL Synthesis), the Northridge Acoustics Engineering group designs and develops acoustic devices, systems, and sub-assemblies in support of many of our Lifestyle business units. From the flagship JBL Everest loudspeakers to our award winning Revel loudspeakers to our state-of-the-art JBL Synthesis home theatre systems, the Northridge acoustics engineering team provides the technical firepower behind some of the best acoustic products and innovations in the industry. Additionally, the team supports our world leading Embedded Audio group with acoustic sub-assemblies optimized for specific audio and voice solutions for the mobile, computing, automotive, and telephony markets. Core competencies include transducer design, systems engineering, optimization & simulation, MEMS, acoustical system testing and validation, production audio testing, applications engineering, mechanical and audio system design, rapid prototyping and smart signal processing.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct Supervision of 15-25 staff including transducer engineering, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, DSP, system engineers, program managers, and technicians.
Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will ultimately be responsible to design, develop, and deliver acoustic products and systems on-time, on-quality, and on-budget across a range of product categories (Luxury Audio, Embedded Audio, and Connected Home) within the Lifestyle Division. - Design, develop, and deliver NPI (New Product Introduction) on-time, on-budget, and on-quality. - Collaborate with category management across Lifestyle Division to define and execute product roadmaps. - Execute internal design, development, and manufacturing products, as well as, OEM/ODM relationships with supply chain partners across the globe. - Develop and execute an innovation plan to drive first-to-market products and technologies in all product lines. Encourage innovation within the development team. Drive novel designs and patent applications. - Create platform and architecture strategies that encourage re-use, reduce cost, improve quality, and drive speed to market. - Manage technical staff capacity across multiple projects while coaching, developing, and building organizational capability to ensure long-term success. - Manage the extensive suite of HARMAN engineering facilities in Northridge including the engineering labs, anechoic chambers, and prototype shop. - Manage the lifecycle of the product including the continuation engineering (quality/warranty) and EOL. - Build relationships with peer engineering leaders across HARMAN’s organization (Professional, Infotainment, Car Audio, Headphones, Research, etc) and foster collaboration, innovation, and platform sharing.
Basic Qualifications: - BS Engineering or Technical field required. MS preferred. - 10+ years experience, preferably in the Audio industry or a Consumer Electronics business. - Strong product development skills, including managing OEM/ODM development programs, engineering capacity management, and driving innovation. - Passion for music and audio. - Ability to work effectively within a matrix environment
