HARMAN to Establish New Global Development Cen-ter in Suzhou, China

AUTO CHINA 2014, BEIJING -- Harman International Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HAR), the global premium audio and infotainment group, said today that it will open a new global research and development center in Suzhou, China in mid 2015, initially adding about 100 new employees at the site. Construction of the new 10,000 sq. m. (100,000 sq. ft.) facility will begin in June. The announcement was made during the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

HARMAN has been active in Suzhou since 2000, when a manufacturing facility was opened to produce a variety of Lifestyle audio, multimedia and mobile products. A new manufacturing plant for automotive audio and infotainment systems was added nearby in 2008, and the facility has since expanded several times to incorporate research and manufacturing for multiple HARMAN businesses. HARMAN employment in Suzhou currently totals about 800 people.

“We are excited to grow our footprint in China once again, capping more than five years of continuous investment and expansion,” said Dinesh C. Paliwal, HARMAN Chairman, President and CEO. “The Suzhou complex has been instrumental in supporting both our Asia/Pacific customers and global automotive partners who operate from China. This new development center will significantly strengthen our global R&D value chain, while further leveraging the talent and competitive costs of the region.”

The new custom-built development center in Suzhou will focus on global product design for automotive loudspeakers and amplifiers. The two-story facility will include a pilot manufacturing plant for automotive electronics, validation and environmental test facilities, acoustic systems laboratories, and reference listening rooms. HARMAN will invest about US$16 million for initial construction and outfitting, with room for expanding the facility to host up to 350 employees in the future.

HARMAN currently employs about 2500 people in China, at facilities in Suzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Dandong. The Company supports a number of global automotive partners from the site, as well as a growing number of domestic Chinese automakers. HARMAN has provided the premium audio systems for such milestone events as the Beijing Olympics, the Shanghai World Expo, the China National Day celebration, and hundreds of cinema, sporting and entertainment venues across China. HARMAN Flagship Stores in Beijing and Shanghai are introducing thousands of new consumers to premium HARMAN brands. Led by its activities in China, HARMAN sales to the BRIC emerging markets have enjoyed compound annual growth of around 80 percent over the past five years.

Basic Qualifications:

·       Working knowledge of acoustics telecommunications, including various types of microphone systems, speaker systems, wideband telecommunications,  full duplex speakerphone technology.

·       Very good understanding of principles of acoustics engineering.

·       Familiarity with various narrow band and wide band acoustic telecommunication standards.

·       Working knowledge of software/firmware development processes.

·       Working knowledge of digital signal processing, including echo cancelers, echo suppression, noise suppression, switched loss and full duplex systems,  sub-band technologies, beam forming, microphone voting. 

·       Ability to read schematics and debug analog and digital hardware.

·       Able to use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, and familiarity with acoustic testing principles and practices. 

·       Master’s  degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Computer Science or equivalent.

·       7+ years acoustics and telecommunications experience,


Desired Characteristics:

·       Working knowledge of voice recognition and voice command and control applications.

·       Working knowledge of personal computing and mobile device platforms.

·       Working knowledge of VOIP, Skype, and similar telecommunications technologies

·       Working knowledge of handsets and headsets used for telecommunications.

·       Working knowledge of subjective speakerphone testing criteria and experience in evaluating speakerphone performance.

电声系统工程师

岗位职责：
Summary: To design, develop and evaluate acoustic systems and transducers. The system design begins with the earliest concept and is continued through 

documentation and production. Team interface is required. Self-motivation, time management and project management skills are used daily.

Basic Functions:
The complete design, development, and integration, of any or all acoustic elements for new products that meet all market requirements and expectations.
Advancements in the creation and applications of new technologies that contribute to our technology and product roadmaps
Continuous and measurable improvement in group expertise through training and management of team members in new acoustic technology developments or special 

related projects.
Maintain knowledge of CE market and competitive landscape to insure alignment of acoustic systems developments with consumer requirements.
Maintain cross functional environment, that includes Marketing, Manufacturing, Sales, Suppliers, Quality Assurance departments to ensure the delivery of easy to 

build, cost effective, innovated & high quality products 
Operate routinely and effectively within highly talented team environment with limited supervision and coordinate with others to accomplish project tasks.

Essential Duties:
Participate in new products meetings to define the necessary acoustic technologies or solutions and to translate concepts into product requirements documentation
Support new product feasibility studies, test planning, and cost estimations
Design, specify, engineer/develop and document necessary acoustic components such as transducers, ports, waveguides and crossover networks
Write specifications for and integration of signal processing electronics for complete powered acoustic systems optimization. 
Identify & evaluate new technologies, materials applications, and signal processing techniques for systems optimization or acoustic component optimization. 
Regularly document findings, recommendations, and seek out ways to improve product development efficiencies, process & technical competency 
Work closely with other team members to quickly integrate all components toward fully functional products.

Analog filter design for Audio system application
Computer based acoustic/electrical measurement systems such as MLSSA, LMS, AP, B&K & other audio test equipment

Required Knowledge: 
Acoustics, Electrical, Physics & Mechanical vibration as applied to consumer products 
Analog, digital electronics fundamentals and signal processing techniques
Engineering prototypes fabrication and assembly
Project management 
Excellent Verbal and written communication skills in English
